Health coverage for an Expat in France

When moving to France, you can contact Wilson and Mark Insurance Brokers so that they can help you set up your health cover.

The French Health care system is called “sécurité sociale”. It is a universal health care system, which grants access to health care services to any French resident, including expats, regardless of age, medical history, or income.

You need to be a resident for 3 months before you can apply for affiliation onto the French Health System and obtain your social numbers.

In the meantime, an expat will need a private insurance.

Wilson and Mark will help you choose and set up the health cover according to your needs.

If you are working, your employer will register you to the French State Insurance.

The French State Health Insurance ( sécurité sociale or CEPAM) covers a percentage (70% for regular outpatient consult with a physician for example) of a standard rate. Some specialists often go over that standard rate. That’s when a “top up cover” or “Mutuelle” comes in, to cover the gap between the State’s reimbursement base and the actual expense. Depending on the levels of cover, Mutuelle can also reimburse specialists that sécurité sociale won’t cover, like psychologists, chiropractors etc.

Wilson and Mark Insurance Brokers work with excellent “mutuelles” and can advise and assist you with choosing the best cover for your needs.

As former expats in various English-Speaking Countries, Wilson and Mark’s bilingual are aware of gaps in culture and requirements. We understand your needs, your questions, and concerns, and are happy to help you choose the best insurance for your needs.

Whether you are looking for insurance for residency, long or short-term visas, top up covers, please feel free to contact us and let us know how we can help.
