The French Health care system is called “sécurité sociale”. It is a universal health care system, which grants access to health care services to any French resident, including expats, regardless of age, medical history, or income.

You need to be a resident for 3 months before you can apply for affiliation onto the French Health System and obtain your social numbers.

In the meantime, an expat will need a private insurance.

Depending on the levels of cover, Mutuelle can also reimburse specialists that sécurité sociale won’t cover, like psychologists, chiropractors etc.
